The DUFF Movie Review
According to Urban Dictionary, the word DUFF stands for Designated Ugly Fat Friend. The new movie ‘The DUFF’ explores that ideal with a hilariously realistic portrayal of a high school senior who is best friends with some of the hottest girls in school. Based on the book of the same name by Kody Keplinger, this story is a breath of fresh air. The main character is not a girl who looks like a supermodel and gets every boy she wants; Bianca Piper an average girl who likes to binge on pizza and has trouble talking to the boy she likes. Through a series of misfortunate adventures involving the hot, yet idiotic captain of the football team and a mean girl obsessed with becoming a reality TV star, Bianca comes to realize that being labeled a DUFF is not the end of the world. In a classic happy ending, she ends up with the boy next door who also happens to be the football captain who helped her overcome her insecurities. Starring Robbie Amell as Wesley Rush (said dreamy, annoying football captain), Bella Thorne as Madison Morgan (Kim Kardashian in training) and Mae Wittman as the heroine, Bianca, the cast delivered a stellar performance and played their roles with perfect accuracy. Although some of the characters were extremely stereotypical of high schoolers, they were just funny and realistic enough to be people you would go to school with. If you want to watch a laugh out loud, heartwarming movie, I would definitely recommend watching “The DUFF.” It has something for everyone; beautiful girls, boys with six packs and humor for the whole family.
