Snow days are something that several students look forward to throughout the winter. This year North was given two free snow days and have had three learning from home days or virtual snow days. Virtual snow days have received positive feedback by many students because of the ability to work at their own pace, and get done with their work earlier in the day versus if they were at school.
“I like virtual snow days because I get to stay home and do my work in my bed, but I do like having a teacher in the room able to help with whatever I may need. I think snow days have a big impact on the way we learn because it’s all online so you can’t do anything in person which makes it hard to focus and understand the material. But it gives us the freedom to do whatever we want with our work and work at our own pace,” freshman Maddy Hedden said.
Students believe that on snow days they don’t end up not doing much homework and it results in them sleeping most of the time. With the snow it also makes it difficult to leave the home leaving students feeling stuck.
“I really like to sit around and not really do anything all day which is nice. It usually takes me a few hours to get all my work done because we aren’t in class,” freshman Josh Jones said.
Virtual snow days have had a negative impact on students due to difficult classes, technology problems, not understanding the work that is required, and not having extra help from teachers.
“I think my American History class was the hardest because we had to do a lot of google docs which was difficult for me to understand by myself. I have struggled with that class because that subject is hard for me to understand but it was much easier for me to understand the content and do my work when we went back to school,” Hedden said.
