Lights, Camera, Ed Sheeran
Buzzing is the only way I can describe the atmosphere of the Sprint Center right before the Ginger Jesus himself, Ed Sheeran, appeared onstage. Rudimental, the opening band, did a great job of getting the crowd pumped and prepared for when Sheeran was scheduled to come on. I’ve had friends tell me that Sheeran puts on a great show, but I have to admit, I was in no way prepared for such a performance.
I was in awe of the way he owned the stage and captured the audience’s attention, right from the moment he set foot in front of the lights. Not many performers can completely enrapture an arena full of thousands of people with only their voice and an acoustic guitar. There was no band behind him, no back up dancers, nothing but him up in front of the crowd. Most concerts today are high energy and involve a lot of visual stimulation- which while very entertaining, can become a tad overwhelming at points.
What I loved about Sheeran’s show was that while visual effects were incorporated, it was not overdone and it really let the audience focus on and feel the music. Ed has such an unique, soulful voice and his lyrics are very beautiful. His songs are timeless and a great mix of slow and upbeat which allows people from all different types of music genres to get something they would like out of the performance. His obvious love of music and downright joy in performing was evident throughout the entire concert. It also helps that he sounds almost exactly the same live as he does in his studio versions of songs.
The way Sheeran was able to get the crowd so involved and invested in his performance truly shows what an amazing and unique performer he is. I would highly recommend going to one of his concerts if you haven’t been to one before. I can guarantee it is a night you will remember for a long time to come.
