Humans of Liberty North: Madison Perry
A passion can come and go, and for freshman Madison Perry, this is true.
“I was in gymnastics for 6 years,” Perry said.
Her love for the sport just wasn’t as it used to be.
“I lost my love for the sport, and I never wanted to go to practices,” Perry said.
Perry had to make a hard decision, whether she would continue with gymnastics or move on to something else.
“I felt like I wasn’t getting anywhere with my skills. I felt that I hit a dead end in my skills and I decided that I should move on,” Perry said.
When it came down to it, Perry knew that she would be better off moving on to better things and to leave gymnastics behind.
“After I quit gymnastics, I knew I still wanted to participate in a sport,” Perry said.
The only dilemma with this was what sport would Perry move on to?
“One day in my physical education class we played volleyball and from that point on I knew that was going to be my next sport,” Perry said.
Once Perry decided that was going to be her new passion, she had another problem. All the girls in her grade had been playing the sport for multiple years, so she had to get caught up.
“Whenever I first started volleyball, I took private lessons to get to where I needed to be. I also started out with rec volleyball, then I moved onto a club team.” Perry said.
Perry was able to learn and pick up the skill pretty quickly.
“Once I got about a year in, high school tryouts were right around the corner. I worked all summer because I was determined to make the team,” Perry said.
Being involved in a sport comes with a series of many challenges. That’s just part of life. It makes you not only a better player but a better teammate. The next challenge for Perry was making her high school team.
“I made C Gold freshman year and I will be trying out again for sophomore year. I miss the people from gymnastics but I’ve met new friends through volleyball. I’ve found a new passion for the sport,” Perry said.
Perry’s not done yet, she has many plans going forward with her volleyball career. Right now Perry is working hard in practice and tournaments with her current club team. She plans to play volleyball for the rest of her high school career
“I’ve been working hard and persevering to continue my volleyball career, I’ll also be going to try out for a new club team this spring,” Perry said.
