Romcom “Holiday Touchdown: A Cheifs Love Story” covers how Chiefs Superfan Alana Higman and Chiefs Director of Fan Engagement Derrick fall in love. Alana’s family are die-hard Cheifs fans, and she wanted to compete with them to win the “Fan of the Year” contest. Her optimism in the competition fades when her grandpa’s Chiefs good-luck hat goes missing. However, falling in love during the Christmas season may save the day.
“When I watched the movie, I enjoyed seeing actual places that I frequently visited when I lived by Independence Square. I thought it was a good reflection of how diehard Chiefs fans support our team, especially all of the superstition,” biology teacher Tricia Peters said.
The movie was filmed entirely in Missouri, including Kansas City and Independence.
The Independence Square’s Christmas in July festival was featured as a seasonal backdrop. They used the locals to their advantage by using them as extras.
“I am a big fan of the movie being filmed in KC. In fact, I would say I am more excited about the film covering locations in Independence as opposed to Arrowhead Stadium. By filming in lower-income communities such as Independence, Hallmark is able to showcase what makes those communities special while boosting the economy for local business owners. Most importantly, it is my hope that filming in Independence will influence local people to take pride in the community that they reside in,” history teacher Eric Walker said.
Part of the movie was filmed at Arrowhead Stadium in July of 2024, while the Chiefs players were at training camp in St. Joseph. In the film, Derrick and Alana share a romantic moment in the empty stadium in the evening.
