Gone Girl Movie Review
I have to admit, while reading the book “Gone Girl” by Gillian Flynn, I was highly disturbed, but not necessarily in a bad way. The book made me think about things I had never considered before. I decided to go and see the movie because I didn’t think it could get any worse. I was wrong. “Gone Girl” is a story about a woman who goes missing on her 5th wedding anniversary. Throughout the first half of the movie and the book, her husband looks extremely guilty. You start to hate him. But then, you get the shock of your life. Nothing is as it seems. The entire beginning of the story was a lie and a ruse. In the end, you feel awful for the husband and sickened by the wife. The book was very cleverly written, the movie was wonderfully directed, and the actors portrayed their respective characters very well. Ben Affleck did an amazing job at playing a man who appeared to be the stereotypical sociopath who murdered his wife, but was actually innocent of it all. Rosamund Pike played an perfect portrayal of a sociopath who appeared to the perfect woman but is quite possibly the most twisted individual in the world.
The movie was a classic suspense thriller with enough twists and turns to keep you on your toes for the better part of the film. I loved it. After watching the film, I find myself wondering if anyone in my life is as crazy as Amy Dunne (the wife in the film). I certainly hope not, because that would be absolutely terrifying. I would highly recommend not only watching the film, but reading the book first, so that you have a basic understanding of what is happening. It can get kind of confusing. If you like to be disturbed and to be forced to think a lot, I would definitely encourage “Gone Girl” for your reading and/or watching enjoyment.
