On January 8, 2015, one of Mexico’s most prestigious drug lord was finally captured: for good this time. After trying to plan escape and waiting on his bodyguards and crew, Chapo was found standing aimlessly next to a local WalMart.

The Mexican Marines had been searching him out for nearly 6 months after he escaped on of the most confined prisons in Mexico. The troops chased him to the Durango and Sinaloa states in hopes of capturing him once and for all. Police said there was an abundant amount of tacos ordered from a man in large white van, which led authorities to become suspicious. This led enforcers to locating the house. 

The Marines then located the house and were met with many armed men, and finally, managed to break through and enter the house in search of Chapo. Like many of  Chapo’s houses, each room contained an escape hatch, found behind items like the refrigerator or even the bedroom mirror.

“I think he is a man with lots of resources,” sophomore Scott Rosa said. “I’m glad they caught him, though.”

After three attempts to finally contain Mexico’s most powerful drug lord, the Marines finally captured him for good.

“If they actually have him contained then I’m relieved, but honestly with how easily he’s escaped in the past, I doubt he’s in there for good,” senior Lilly Sieren said.

Local enforcers will continue to keep an eye on Chapo as they believe that this containment will indeed be the last.
