EIP is a program that seniors can do where they go into a classroom and help out with a variety of different things such as, pulling small groups, make connections with students, and even teach the whole class. EIP students help with a variety of different things in the classroom. Having an extra person in the classroom can be really helpful for the teacher, but also for all the students.
“I am in the classroom during their math time. I pull out small groups to work on math problems, I do a lot of one-on-one help. The jobs or things I do can also differ depending on their schedule or the classes needed for that day. I plan on going into pediatric nursing so this experience will definitely help in my future job,” senior Haley Calvin said.
A bunch of students enjoy the EIP program because they are able to get A+ hours, and an English credit. This is really beneficial to several students because a large group of them enjoy helping out adults and kids.
“I work with 8th graders at Heritage Middle School, and my favorite part of EIP is going to my class because all the kids are so excited to see me and it is a really positive and uplifting environment everyday,” senior Amy Gates said.
The EIP program is not only beneficial to the students but is also a big help to the teachers that are given EIP students. Teachers are grateful for this program because it gives their students an extra role model in the classroom.
“I have lots of favorite parts of the program, but I think the most important thing is how my 8th grade students look up to Amy. They see her as a cool, smart, helpful student, who is just a little older than they are. They realize that it’s actually cool to do your work, because Amy is encouraging them, and she’s cool, so it must be true,” teacher Katie Garrison said.
