Warming up for Courtwarming
As the Liberty North basketball season winds down, seniors of the boys and girls basketball teams are preparing for this year’s Courtwarming. Student Council has announced that the theme for Courtwarming 2017 will be “Road 2 Victory.” Courtwarming candidates have been selected by the basketball teams, and a spirit week will take place from February 13th to 17th. On February 15th, there will be a Courtwarming Tip-Off Trivia after school; all are welcome to attend. On Friday the 17th, the Courtwarming games will take place at Liberty North. JV Girls and Boys will be in the Aux Gym and the Fieldhouse at 5:00pm. Later, the Varsity Girls will play at 6:30pm, followed by the Varsity Boys at 8:00pm.
“Being a senior is a special time in all students’ lives, when you add the importance of a senior basketball season, it is magnified. Some of the most electric environments in the history of the Fieldhouse have been on Courtwarming night and I’m sure this year will be no different,” Boys Basketball Coach Chris McCabe said.
For graduating seniors, Courtwarming is an important time to celebrate one of the last high school sporting events they will be attending. Players are also trying to make their last year count by finishing their season with a bang. Courtwarming is also a big part of the basketball team’s season.
“Courtwarming is a really big deal to our team, it gives us a chance to recognize our supporters and people who come out to watch us,” Girls Basketball player Destiny Ojigoh said. This has been a successful season for both the boys and girls teams and Courtwarming is how many players acknowledge and show appreciation to the seniors at the end of the season. Both teams have seen so much growth and the coaches are proud of the achievements they’ve made.
“This basketball season, the girls have grown so much in every single game that they’ve played. I can’t tell you that there’s anytime we’ve taken a step backwards; we’ve continued to grow. This team is really close, so that’s really cool. We’re not seeing a lot of wins record-wise, but we’ve been in so many close games that I think it’s really great for them to experience that and fight through tough games together. It’s been really fun,” Girls Basketball Coach Jessica Koch said.
