The Scorch Trials burn the Competition

The Scorch Trials, directed by Wes Ball, picked up directly where the first movie, The Maze Runner, left off. A boy from The Maze named Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) is the main character, and his point of view is the most often shown. Throughout the movie, the young boys were rescued from The Maze fought off WCKD, a cruel corporation that had originally placed the boys in The Maze. The boys escaped their facilities in the beginning of the movie, and ran from the corporation, as well as hoards of zombie-like creatures called Cranks. The movie itself is based off of novels written by James Dashner. Although the movie as a whole was good, it hardly followed the book at all. The Cranks were portrayed as a more human-like species in the book, whereas in the movie there are close to no human features. The ending was completely different from the book, and some key scenes were changed and didn’t really match what happened in the book. Overall, The Scorch Trials was a good movie. Although it lacked a focal point and didn’t follow the book, it was visually appealing with stunning graphics and strong roles played by very talented actors. The movie jumped around a lot, which made it hard to understand what was happening sometimes, but in a sense it kept the audience entertained with non stop action. I would recommend this movie to those who enjoyed The Maze Runner, as it picks up directly where the first movie left off, and has the same story line and violent action.
