Liberty North’s Student Council does more than many people think for our school. Not only do they plan dances, promote spirit weeks, promote fundraisers, and support the staff, they also work with other Student Councils in their district to create, hear, and start new ideas. On Friday, October 26, Student Council went to the Northwest District Student Council meeting at Chillicothe High School. 1,076 delegates were in attendance from 35 schools.
“Student Council Districts is a meeting of the Northwestern councils that all come together to share ideas, new concepts, and decide on new District Executive Council Members,” junior Luke Small said.
The Council Members attended workshops that are led by Council Members from other schools from other schools. The members listen to a presentation and then discuss their ideas with the other students.
“The workshops we attend are different school’s ideas, how they apply them and make them work in their school, and formats to help you make it work in your school. I went to the Spike It Up Volleyball Tournament and Morning Assemblies workshops,” senior Josh Koch said.
Not all of the Council Members went to workshops; Executive Members planned and presented their own workshops. Jessica Wawiorka, Hallie Sallee, Melissa Stockwell, and Katelynn Downey all presented workshops.
“Hallie and I created a PowerPoint presentation to show the attendee’s what our Assemblies are like. Instead of just talking to them, we showed them pictures from all of our assemblies. We bounced ideas off of one another and came up with new ways to involve more people in your assemblies,” senior Jessica Wawiorka said.
The District meeting is not all just work, all the members also have the opportunity to meet lots of new people and have fun as well.
“You get to meet so many new people with a lot of new ideas that can help change and improve your school. Plus we get to go to a dance and hang out with all of your new friends and meet even more people. We get to have fun after we get all the work done. We had to be here really early and it was kind of stressful getting ready, but it was totally worth it!” junior Montana Grizzle said.
