If you’re interested in law, regardless of your future career plan, North’s Mock Trial Club will be perfect for you. The founder, junior Adrian Fong, is reviving the club for students interested in law, practicing public speaking, or just for fun.
“My main goal is just for everyone to feel included and to have fun, and hopefully go to competitions,” said Fong.
During the meetings, members will discuss cases, plan a trial, and help brainstorm any future club activities. Each member will be assigned a role; attorneys, prosecutor, and witnesses. These roles will require collaboration between members. Attorneys and prosecutors will need to understand the cases, prepare questions for witnesses, and be able to think quickly. Witnesses will need to know their backstory and be able to answer questions from the attorney. The cases will be created relevant issues to allow a deeper understanding of them. To create an environment of learning, there will be actual lawyers and judges to help come to conclusions.
“Our goal is to create a realistic way for people to experience law and the court system,” said Fong.
This club will help foster public speaking skills for its members. So, if you want help with that, this would be a great opportunity. It’s also beneficial for students who want to study law in the future. Helping to create a deeper knowledge and understanding of law. Any student can join no matter their plans. As well as giving more background knowledge for possible future experiences with the law.
“It’s also important since we have real lawyers, and it surrounds law which today is highly misunderstood, but something used every day that is incredibly important for not just people who want to do law, but for everyone,” said Fong.
If you are interested in joining, you can contact Mr. McGee in person or by email. The meetings will be on thursdays starting in November in room 609.
