The week that students have been anticipating since the start of school has finally arrived. The MacBooks are here. Walking around and looking into classrooms, a sea of miniature silver laptops are all that are visible. Starting on Tuesday, September 3, seniors were the first to receive their new devices and from there it went down the line; juniors on Wednesday, sophomores on Thursday and finally freshman on Friday.
Many people are really excited about this amazing opportunity.
“I’m so excited to get the laptops. The weight load on backpacks goes way down because textbooks are available online now. I think that fact that we have this opportunity is just amazing too!” junior Moira Carder said.
However, not everyone is excited about getting the MacBooks. Some of the students that had them last year for the trial run at Liberty Junior High (now Heritage Middle chool) didn’t think they were all that great and are not happy to be receiving them again this year.
“I did not like having the laptops last year. I hated having to charge them every night; it was such a pain. We also had more homework and a lot more independent work in class since we had the MacBooks. I just did not like them,” sophomore Emily Chapman said.
Other students are not happy about them for different reasons.
“I think it takes away a sense of pride and satisfaction. Say you spend four hours writing a report for school; even though it is not fun to have to spend four hours of your night doing homework, at least when you finished you would have a sense of accomplishment knowing that you had handwritten the report and a feeling of relief for finally being done. On the laptops, it would take a fraction of the time and you wouldn’t get the satisfaction of knowing you had worked hard on handwriting the paper yourself,” sophomore Sage Foley said.
Even with the problems that these laptops come with, many still think they are cooll. The chance to have the MacBooks is truly amazing and hopefully will make the lives of students a little bit easier.
