Halloween; the October holiday filled with tricks and treats is finally upon us. On this day, families may find a way to make it their own, creating little traditions for years to come. This year is no different for a few of the students at North.
“A tradition my family has had for years is visiting my grandparent’s house and going for a little tractor ride through their yard. They have their yard all decorated with ghosts and skeletons and all of these different Halloween decorations. It’s pretty fun to see the whole set up,” senior Riley Oshel said.
Activities aren’t the only prominent part of someone’s Halloween. Things such as food, whether that be a meal or a dessert, can be brought into this holiday.
“My mom usually makes a pot of chili for my family, and it’s so good. I also started making pumpkin cookies a few years ago. I don’t decorate them or anything, it’s just pumpkin flavored cookies. I usually end up putting cinnamon on top of them with white icing. It tastes amazing,” senior Addyson Frank said.
On top of the food, Halloween has accumulated a multitude of movies and shows throughout the years. Ones that are specifically for the day or are incorporated to be just that.
“My family loves watching ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’. I don’t know why we started watching the first Harry Potter. It isn’t exactly a typical Halloween movie, but it’s definitely something we watch with my grandparents every year,” Oshel said.
All-in-all, Halloween may not mean one specific thing to a family. Everyone has the ability to carry their own traditions throughout this spooky season.
“To me, Halloween is a day when you can do whatever you want. It’s not as serious as Christmas or Easter, so just hang out and vibe. This year I plan to go out and participate in Halloween. Maybe even trick-or-treat one last time,” Frank said.
