Shortly after school starts, allergy season kicks off, as fall begins to come enter the atmosphere. Sneezing, sniffling, itchy eyes are symptoms around you throughout the fall season. Allergies hit many people everywhere, including students from Liberty North.
When asked how she felt about having allergies, Makenzie Stapleton, sophomore said, “I hate having allergies there’s nothing that you can do to stop them.”
Stapleton is completely right; there is nothing that you can truly do to stop having allergies. There’s medicine you can take, eye drops, and also even a shot to help you. Through all of this though, most of your symptoms still remain strong.
Many, myself included, wonder what causes allergies. That is that the immune systems in the body recognize and react to foreign substances such as pollen as harmful to your body. The pollen can come from anywhere; trees, grass, or really any sort of plant. As a result of outdoors being all around a person, there’s no way to defend your body from allergies. You’re left hoping that your white blood cells will soon let the rest of your body know that pollen is truly no invader and that it’s okay to be in your body.
Junior, Kylie Callura, said, “I don’t have nearly as bad of allergies as a lot of my friends do and I’m thankful for that. I can see them so miserable around me!”
A thing that seems to be so simple can really affect daily activities such as an outdoor sport. Although allergies aren’t considered to be ‘dangerous’, it’s hard for a person to continue to be outside when there’s pollen everywhere. From the age of ten on, allergies tend to really hit you hard, making you ask yourself are those two hours of physical activity really even worth it? For many, the answer is yes; the sneezing, congestion, itchy eyes, are something that you have to put up with in order to do something that you love.
Sydney Styhl, senior, said, “Although I haven’t found a treatment for allergies that’s completely effective, I’ve found ways to prevent them from being as bad.”
An easy way for you to keep your allergies to a minimum is by keeping all of the windows in your house closed, it’s nice to open the windows, but for your body’s sake it’s best to keep the air on. Another way is by taking a shower after you’ve been outside, pollen is easy trapped on your body, only continuing to trigger your immune system.
Until the allergy season is up, remember the simple tips to make yourself feel better and you might want to make sure you have a box of tissues near you as well.
