On Wednesday, January 25, head softball coach and ISS teacher Jake Fisher stepped down after coaching one season of Liberty North varsity girl’s softball. Fisher helped lead the girls from a 7-23 record in their inaugural season to a 16-14 record this season along with Liberty North’s first district championship.
“ It’s really disappointing to see him go, we truly believed that we could go to state next year and it’s not going to be the same doing it without him,” Sophomore Mackenzie Stapleton said.
Coach Fisher made it clear that his decision to leave Liberty North is in no way reflective of how he feels about the school or the team. There were a number of contributing factors in Coach Fisher’s decision.
“The main factor in my decision is my family; the drive to Liberty North every day is a bit of a commute, and I was offered a unique opportunity at another company. Although it was hard to think about leaving the team, I had to do what was best financially for my family and I,” Fisher said.
After a memorable season last year, Fisher is sad to be leaving, and hopes the girls can continue to grow and improve.
“The girls are great, it was incredible to watch their confidence and skill grow throughout last season.” Fisher said. After doubling their win’s in a single season, the softball team is truly on the right track, and hopefully this will not set them back,” Fisher said.
A search for a new softball coach is underway.
