North’s women’s basketball team is facing a daunting reality: a rebuilding year. With last year’s graduation, key players left, leaving the rest of the team finding themselves left to rebuild and regain their footing.
“Losing that many seniors is obviously a huge loss for a team, regardless of their role but we worked really hard this summer and pre-season to make sure that we believe in each other and in ourselves. It can be a little scary losing all that leadership but we’re ready and feeling good after these past few weeks,” junior Millie Perry said.
Rebuilding the team will require patience, dedication and good leadership. This may not come easy but with hard work the team will work its way back up.
“We’re trying to look at it as only building up and stacking day by day, getting better each day and working super hard regardless of what happens this season. We’re also working with a mental training coach this season to help us believe in ourselves as team and individual players,” Perry said.
With the loss of seniors and incoming freshmen, there will be new responsibilities and roles. The team will discover new strengths along with confronting unforeseen weaknesses.
“Going into this new season will definitely be a change because we are all learning our role within the team and trying to mesh together,” junior Mia Couch said.
Rebuilding the team isn’t just about working hard at practice, but also bonding with the team. When the players feel connected they trust each other, communicate more efficiently, and overall perform better on the court.
“I’m most looking forward to team bonding, so us being together and having fun with the team dinners,”Couch said.
