The Varsity football team kicked off the regular season the right way last Friday, August 24, defeating Ruskin High School 42-13. The Eagles played solid defense, and produced on offense, showing much hope for the rest of the season.
“I think it went okay for the first game. We need to work out some problems and eliminate mistakes. If we can eliminate mistakes and reduce penalties we can do very well this season,” senior Trevor Shepherd said.
Many members of the team, on offense and defense, contributed to the victory.
“I think defense did a solid job. Some key contributors were Myron Powell and Bryce Shepherd. Also, Antwynn Beavers scored three touchdowns and Brian Sharp did good in his first start,” junior Nick Hess said.
Even though the Eagles pulled out an easy win, it is clear to the players and coaches that they still have things to work on.
“Overall we played well, our defense shut them out all game and our offense just had some few mental mistakes that can easily be fixed. It was a good game for the first game. For the rest of the season we just need to continue to get better at practice and keep working hard,” sophomore Brian Sharp said.
As Liberty North works to become even better than they showed in their first game, they all have one goal in mind.
“Our goal is to win a state championship,” Hess said.
