On December 3, the Liberty North Golden Girls dance team participated in the Kansas City Classic Competition at Liberty High School and took first place in their division. Many teams around the Kansas City area took part in this event. The competition was a great way for the girls to gain more experience.
“We did really well. We got first place in our division with our lyrical jazz dance to “Turning Tables” by Adele. It felt amazing to get first because we put in so much time and effort into making this dance flawless,” junior Kaitlin Windsor said. Much confidence was gained by receiving first place.
The dance team has already improved this season. With seven out of eleven dancers being a freshman, experience is not something they have on their side, but they find a way to still be successful.
“Our team has come a long way since last year. We have grown in size and we also have a new coach, Amy Schirmer, who along with our assistant coach, Samantha Lyons, pushes us to be the best we can be. We have also improved in technique and work hard to learn more dances for basketball season, and upcoming competitions,”Windsor said.
With many more performances and competitions to come the Golden Girls can only improve, and win more titles.
“I am very happy with how the year is going. I feel like we are improving a lot and gaining a good reputation. Hopefully we can continue our success as the year continues,” Windsorsaid.
