Here at North, sports are a big part of the school. Both attending and participating in school sports events provide a way for everyone to participate. Last August kicked off the 2024 cross-country season. Two individuals especially stood out; Anesu Nziramasanga and Lucy Wright. Anesu returned for his 3rd year of cross-country and Lucy is a 1st year.
Anesu Nziramasanga returned to cross-country and is top varsity this year. It takes a lot to get on varsity and it takes a lot to prepare and practice for varsity meets.
“I try to be as focused as possible and make practice as “race-like” as possible. Understanding that I get out what I put into practice, so being intentional every day is super important,” junior Anesu Nziramasanga said.
Roadblocks can occur when training or practicing for something. These can hinder someone’s ability to do something.
“Running is mostly mental, you have to dig deep a lot. You sacrifice in order to get results,” Nziramasanga said.
Lucy is a freshman on varsity. This allows Lucy to have experience and opportunities with others on the team.
“It’s been fun being on varsity, and all the team are super nice and supportive. I couldn’t have asked for a better group,” freshman Lucy Wright said.
Although Lucy Wright is a freshman, she still has had a lot of experience running and being on a team.
“I started running when I was younger. I ran track in fifth grade and did cross country through in seventh grade,” Wright said.
