At North, Basketball season has officially started and, this year, many players have returned to the varsity team. The season’s first game falls on December 6th against Fort Osage and starts at 7:00 pm. Along with the old players returning, there is a new addition to the coaching staff. Ryan Rippee is a new coach for the basketball team. He has coached basketball for 7 years at Bentonville, but this is his first year at North. For him, there are high hopes for this season,
“I couldn’t be more excited for this year. I like where we are at. There’s been a lot of passion and energy from the group, and they’re great to work with,” Rippee said.
The team also agrees that they are being prepared for the season ahead.
“I think Coach has been preparing us well. We watch a lot of film and have been practicing for what other teams are going to do,” senior Jack Huyser said.
He expects the team to do well and feels like he’s preparing the team for what is ahead. According to Rippee, good practice is just as important as good plays.
“I think we’re going to do well. I think we’re going to surprise some people. I’m optimistic about the season. Setting a good foundation helps prepare for games. We always tell our players, how you do one thing, you do everything,” Rippee said.
Like many other aspects of basketball, there will always be challenging parts, but overcoming problems really matters.
“I don’t think being a new coach is much of a roadblock. There will definitely be a learning curve and a learning experience, just like any other new player. Dwelling on mistakes for too long is hurtful. You’ve got to keep moving forward.” Rippee said
