A change has come to the varsity cheer and dance teams this year: they have invited two new boys to their teams. Freshman Parker Gavina has joined dance and freshman Noah Lamonte joined cheer.
“Parker is the first boy we’ve ever had on any dance team here at North,” dance coach Maya Augosto said.
Gavina has won many first-place and title awards which can take many years to accomplish.
“I have been dancing for about seven years,” Gavina said.
The success of athletes at LNHS with the wide variety of options to be athletically involved has inspired many new people to join and try out for sports.
“I wanted to cheer in 8th grade but I didn’t because I was in plays, then I realized freshman year I could try out and just see how it goes then I made the cheer team,” Lamonte said.
Extra curriculars such as dance and cheer are a way for students to get involved and meet one another.
“I love the community and the people that are in it, they’re really fun and nice and I just love talking to them,” Gavina said.
Many students at North frequent in celebrating school spirit, especially at the games cheering their teams on.
“I like how everyone at the games is always hyped up and how they cheer everyone on. Part of what I do at a game is tumble, and stunt on the sidelines,” Lamonte said.
Cheer and dance require a lot of commitment inside and outside of school, so balancing sports with school may be hard, but these two make it work.
“I always find myself working my hardest in school to get all my work done so that way I have no homework and I’m free to dance and focus on that. But right now I’m looking forward to just dancing and being there in the present,” Gavina said.
