On Sunday, February 9, the Chiefs will play in their third consecutive Super Bowl. Super Bowl LIX will be played at the Superdome in New Orleans. However, many fans around the NFL are not excited about this year’s matchup because the Chiefs are currently on top of the NFL with two consecutive Super Bowl wins, and the Eagles have also been the NFC champs and runner up recently.
“I think we’ll win because we have prior momentum from winning the past two years. When our team is all functioning at its full capacity, we are hard to stop,” junior Ava Tucker said.
If the Chiefs win this year, they will be the only team in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowls.
“The three-peat is super important because it’s never been done before. A lot of people like to try and delegitimize the success of our team and I feel like a three-peat would make that hard to do,” Tucker said.
The postseason in Kansas City has become beloved by most Kansas City area residents. Many host watch parties during the game with food, family, and friends. Especially during the postseason, occasionally fireworks can be heard whenever the Chiefs score. The three-peat would be the cherry on top and cement the Chiefs as one of the all time greats.
“I think that the simple fact that it has never been done before is extremely significant. It would be the first time it has ever happened, and that would be very exciting for Kansas City and all Chiefs fans,” junior Evelyn Hensley said.
The Super Bowl is rarely an easy game for either participating team, but many Chiefs fans are hopeful despite the strong Eagle’s team on the other side of the competition.
“The Eagles are a great team and definitely have a chance to win. I also believe that playoff Mahomes is extremely intimidating and hard to stop. They also have their last loss looming over them,” Tucker said.
