Romance is by far one of the most popular book genres of 2023. The genre may be about love but plenty of romance included very serious topics. Not a lot of people like romance just because they think it’s all sappy and boring. Something so special about the genre is the connections you can make to the story and the characters.
Throughout 2023, I have read multiple romance books and all were good but one really stood out to me. Fat Chance, Charlie Vega by Crystal Maldonado. Not only did this book have romance but it had so many takes on what it’s like being a hispanic plus sized woman. Charlie Vega learns how to accept herself the way she is and she grows to love herself and her body. This book means so much to me since I can make so many personal connections. This book also uses elements of comedy to really set the mood for the reader. Overall I gave this book a 10/10.
My second favorite book I’ve read this year would have to be Icebreaker by Hannah Grace. It’s an enemies to lovers book about an ice skater and a hockey player. This book has many serious topics about therapy, healing from toxic friendships, and learning to forget the past. I loved this book so much not only for the romance but also the comedy and seriousness. I would also give this book a 10/10.
My third and final favorite romance book of 2023 would be Love Boat Taipei by Abigail Hing Wen. Set in Taipei, Ever Wong is sent to a camp to help her learn more about her culture but, along the way she gets herself into messy relationships. She learns more about herself and her culture as she falls in love with who she never thought she would. Love Boat Taipei is by far one of the most amazing romance books I have ever read. You learn so much about different cultures and getting exposed to different countries. I could read this book over and over and never get tired. Definitely a 10/10.
These were by far the best romance books I read this year. Not only were they just about love they also made me laugh and want to cry. Though many people may not enjoy romance there’s nothing wrong with giving something new a chance.
