Mrs. McCune is an art teacher here at North and she does an awesome job managing her students.
About how she came to love art she said, “I’ve loved art since I was a little girl. I would visit my grandmother and great-aunt in Kilgore, Texas every summer. They were both fabulous artists! I always loved seeing their artwork and enjoyed learning from them. I vividly remember my great aunt teaching me how to draw faces at the age of 9 or 10. She was such a stickler for detail! I was molded at a young age to really appreciate art and it has continued throughout my life.”
Before coming to North, Mrs. McCune worked in the district for 30 years. She started out as a traveling art teacher for Franklin Elementary and Liberty Middle and has been growing creative minds at North since 2013. Her favorite thing to teach students is technical drawing skills and perspective. “There is so much more to just drawing something. It’s all about measuring and sighting, using angles, and understanding ratios. It is such a great feeling when I see my students really ‘get it’.”
Her favorite drawing she has ever done is a pencile drawing 0f Royals player Yorando Ventura and it sits in a sport of pride right behind her desk.
When asked about what her plans are after retierment she said, “I may teach elsewhere because I still love it. One thing I know for certain, is that I will transform a bedroom into an art studio. This is something I’ve wanted to do for years but time gets away. I’m anxious to have the time and space to really create on my own.”
