For years, art teacher Angie McCune has been working here at North and has been teaching for much longer. She has taught in many different schools including Franklin Elementary, Liberty Middle School, Liberty High School, South Valley, and Heritage Middle School. She has taught different art classes in every grade except 7th throughout years of excellent teaching.
“Seeing the world change right before my eyes, from using a pencil to bubble in attendance, and using an actual chalkboard, to having the world in the palm of our hands! My life has really changed so much,” McCune said.
She not only taught art but also coached high school soccer for 18 seasons at Liberty High School and one here at North. She has helped bring both teams to a State Championship.
“An amazing time in my life with unforgettable moments as both teams won in seconds of their State Championship,” McCune said.
McCune is slowly getting closer to retirement and she can see it.
“I still do not have a date set, but it may be sooner than later for a couple of reasons, and for those who understand, my rule of 86 is this December. So as you know, the rule of 86 is when your age plus your years of service equals 86 or more. I’m 55 and I’ll have taught 31 years so add them together and it’s 86. But more importantly, I’ll be a first-time grandma soon,” McCune said.
McCune wants to make it one of her best years yet, and when she retires, she’ll still have the memories she made.
“It’s always a highlight every year to see the incredible work so many students create and knowing that I helped them along the way is a good feeling! I’ll miss that when I retire,” McCune said.
