Juggling school, sports, and just life in general can be a challenge, but senior Gabe Perry takes it all in stride. Being a three-sport athlete, Perry puts in the work he needs to succeed in every aspect. Perry is fresh off the football team’s state championship win, which happened on December 2nd. The preparation for a game of that caliber can be one of the most important parts of the game itself.
“The preparation started for my team back in January, with me not deciding to play until around March. We put in so much work, from 6 am workouts to running countless amounts of hills, and it all paid off. But the week before the game alone, we had meetings twice a day, with practices, lifts, yoga, and just tried to get our minds and bodies right,” Perry said.
Going into a state championship can be a mental game. Many athletes have their own way of getting “in the zone” or getting their minds into the game.
“I knew if I put all my faith into God and into my team and coaches, it was all going to pay off,” Perry said.
Having a strong sense of motivation is a big part of being an athlete and Perry has plenty of his own.
“My biggest motivation to me is my family. My family has poured so much into my journey and never left my side, giving me constant support and I cannot thank them enough,” Perry said.
Perry is currently committed to play baseball at Hutchinson Community College next fall. He plans on continuing his course in the broadcasting world by studying sports journalism and broadcasting.
“I chose to study sports journalism and broadcasting because I enjoy the work that gets put in to get coverage on all of the sports that go on in a community,” Perry said.
With this being his senior year, Perry is soaking in the last moments of his high school career along with all the programs he has been a part of.
“I think I will just miss the support that both the school and the community bring to the sports programs. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen, and I am truly blessed to be able to attend North,” Perry said.
