Liberty North Softball is on their way into the State Tournament. On Saturday October 8, the Liberty North Softball team won the district championship, bringing home the first district in North’s history. The last few weeks have been very successful for the Eagles. They finished the regular season with a record of 13-13, entering into district play.
“On Wednesday, we played Excelsior Springs and defeated them 10-2. Thursday we played in the semifinals against the number two seed and defeated them 16-3. In the championship we played Platte County, the number one seed and beat them 3-1,” said Jake Fisher, LNHS head softball coach.
Defeating the Platte County Pirates was a moral victory for the Eagles, after losing to the Pirates 6-1 at home and a hard loss of 6-4 while at Platte in the regular season. All district games were played at Platte County’s home field, providing Platte the “home-field advantage,” making the win for the girls even sweeter.
“It felt amazing to win. It was probably the best feeling I have ever had,” said Lindsey Rich, Varsity Left-fielder.
The entire game was a fight till the death for both teams. Working hard on both sides of the field definitely paid off for the Eagles.
“Our pitching and defensive was great the entire week. Summer [Prather] had an awesome outing against Smithville on Thursday and Katelen [Permenter] looked outstanding on the mound on Saturday in the championship. Defensively, we just clicked. They made the basic plays along with the outstanding plays. Offense was well too, we bunted well, stole the bases we needed to and we hit the ball well,” said Fisher.
The girls continue their battle to state on Wednesday October 12, at Liberty North’s home field at 5:00 against Chillicothe. Good luck Eagles!
